Career workshop gives out tips to be successful in an interview

A career workshop, “Ace that Interview,” was held over Zoom to share tips and advice for students looking to ensure their next interview will be successful.

Megan Sterling, a representative of the Fashion Institute of Design and Marketing, was the speaker at the workshop.

Sterling said that it takes practice for people to be good at interviewing, and preparation is key to a successful interview.

Theatre returns on-ground with a winter play production

The theatre department is returning to on-ground campus performances, after being stuck online for over 18 months to produce the winter play “Junie B. Jones Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.”

The performances will be held on Cosumnes River College’s campus at the Black Box Theatre, and will be spread out for over a week, with the first show on Dec. 3 and the last on Dec. 11. For the first time, the theatre department will also be live-streaming the performances from the theatre with a live audience

16th Annual Fall Ethics Symposium focuses on ethics and the city

The 16th Annual Ethics Symposium: Ethics and the City is hosting multiple events this year. The first event was held on Sept. 29 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

The Ethics Symposium is a co-production of Cosumnes River College and the Sacramento State Center for Practical and Professional Ethics.

Richard Schubert, the executive director of the Fall Ethics Symposium, has been involved with the symposium since its creation in 2005.

Yoga professors discuss their online experiences and the benefits of practicing yoga

Kinesiology professors, Kari Nahlen and Coral Sage, discussed their motivations to practice and teach yoga, the benefits of practicing yoga, and how they’ve navigated teaching through zoom during COVID-19.

Nahlen is the women’s volleyball coach and a professor of kinesiology and has been teaching yoga at Cosumnes River College for five years and practicing yoga for over ten years. She said she began practicing yoga and incorporating yoga into workouts after being referred to it for muscle tigh

Students discuss their experiences with synchronous learning

While online learning is not new, COVID-19 school closures have forced the expansion of online learning’s ability to connect students through the use of synchronous classes on Zoom.

In interviews with four students from Cosumnes River College, students discussed their experiences with online synchronous learning.

Kelsey Lightfoot, 26, a deaf studies major, said synchronous classes are better than asynchronous because of the set schedules and structure it gives online learning.
